Viewing Previous Journey Versions

4 min. readlast update: 03.12.2025

This section explains how journey versioning works and guides users on analysing different versions to identify the highest performing one.

When an active journey is modified—for example, to improve performance—the system does not simply update the existing journey. Instead, it creates a new version, preserving the previous version and its key performance indicators (KPIs) while resetting specific metrics such as the count of messages sent in each action block. Note that new versions are only generated when changes are made to an active journey; modifications to inactive journeys do not trigger versioning.

⚠️ Users require CRM journey view permission to view the analytics section of the user interface.

How Journey Versioning Works

  1. Modifying an Active Journey:

    • When an active journey is updated (e.g., changing an email template), the system creates a new version upon saving the changes.
  2. Preservation and Reset:

    • The previous version is preserved along with its historical KPIs.
    • The new version resets metrics like the number of messages sent in each action block to start tracking fresh data.
  3. Comparing Versions:

    • Users can open the journey options and select Compare Versions to view metrics for the current and previous versions.
    • Up to ten previous versions are displayed.
    • Selecting two different versions will highlight the changes made between them.
  4. Analytics and Rollback:

    • Clicking on the analytics icon loads available KPIs for the selected versions, enabling performance comparisons.
    • If necessary, users can rollback to a previous version by selecting the Rollback option. Note that initiating a rollback will create yet another new version of the journey.

By utilising journey versioning, organisations can effectively track changes, analyse performance improvements, and revert to earlier configurations when needed, ensuring continuous optimisation of customer journeys.

Step-by-Step Instructions on How To View Previous Journeys

  1. Access Version Comparison:

    • Open the Journey menu and select Compare Versions.

  1. Select Versions to Compare:

    • Adjust the two edges of the slider to choose two versions of the journey.
    • The slider displays the date for each version, and up to ten previous versions are available.
  2. View the Comparison:

    • The left and right panels display the differences between the selected versions:
      • + Icon: Indicates that a new block was added.
      • Exclamation Mark: Shows that a block has been altered (e.g., updated preferences).
      • - Icon: Denotes that a block was removed.

  1. Adjust the View Mode:

    • Change the view style between horizontal and vertical using the dropdown menu at the top right of the screen.
  2. Analyse KPIs:

    • Click the chart icon on the right navigation bar to open a detailed KPI comparison for the selected versions.
    • Click on any KPI to load and view its specific values.

  1. Rollback to a Previous Version:

    • Click the Rollback button for the desired version to revert the journey.

⚠️ Rolling back resets all statistics for the journey blocks to zero.

These steps provide a clear, side-by-side comparison of journey versions, enabling users to identify changes and assess performance differences effectively.
